Snep Lighting was established as an independent company in 2026. It is part of the Purso Group, with a history dating back to 1959. Decades of experience in aluminium, thermal management and construction have also provided a strong basis for the lighting business.
The development of SNEP® luminaires began in 2010, when Purso explored new applications for its aluminium expertise. At the same time, the lighting industry was going through major change, and the company recognised the opportunities it would bring: LED technology was spreading rapidly, and energy efficiency was becoming a key focus in construction.
This led to the idea of luminaires that combine lifecycle thinking, Finnish industrial expertise and the excellent properties of aluminium, such as its ability to conduct heat efficiently.
From the very beginning, there was strong confidence in this new direction. This is reflected in the decision to exhibit at the Light + Building trade fair in Germany in 2012. At the time of registration, not a single luminaire prototype had yet been completed, but committing to the industry’s leading event helped speed up product development. The first SNEP® luminaires were introduced to the international market early on.
The name SNEP® comes from the installation method of the first products. The luminaires clicked quickly and easily into place, making a sound like ‘snep’. Since then, alternative installation methods have also been introduced, but the SNEP® name has become well known in the lighting industry.
The first SNEP® luminaires were completed in 2012 and were initially installed in industrial halls and stores. One of the first customers was a small local shop, where the result proved so successful that other retail customers soon followed.
Over the years, the product range has expanded, and SNEP® luminaires are now used in offices, shopping centres, schools and hospitals, among others. With the advanced SNEP® product selector, lighting designers can define the most suitable solutions for each space quickly and accurately.
The lighting industry is once again undergoing change. Energy efficiency requirements are becoming stricter, the importance of sustainability continues to grow, and there is still a large amount of outdated lighting technology in use that needs to be replaced. In addition, first-generation LED luminaires are reaching the end of their lifecycle all across Europe.
Snep Lighting responds to this demand by developing lighting solutions that combine sustainability, high quality and Finnish manufacturing. The Purso Group provides a strong industrial foundation, enabling long-term product development and high delivery reliability.
100% recycled Greenline aluminum
The body of SNEP® luminaires is made of recycled Greenline aluminum. Remelting aluminium only consumes approximately 5% of the energy needed to produce primary aluminum. Thus, Purso’s luminaires both save energy and are environmentally sound. Choosing Finnish luminaires is a sustainability act supporting the transition towards a carbon neutral society – one luminaire at a time.
