More detailed and transparent information is now available on the environmental impact of SNEP® luminaires. The EPDs prepared for SNEP® luminaires help customers, designers, contractors, wholesalers and end users easily assess the carbon footprint of the products and make sustainable choices.
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) provides verified information on a product’s environmental impact and carbon footprint throughout its life cycle. Verified by an independent third party, it provides reliable and comparable data.
”Our EPD provides designers and the entire supply chain with an easy, reliable and comprehensive source of environmental information.”
– Ville Moilanen, Technology Manager, Snep Lighting Oy
Building legislation requires the carbon impact of a building to be reported as part of the climate declaration for certain construction projects.
“An EPD provides comprehensive information on a product’s environmental impact. The GWP A1–A3 carbon footprint value included in the EPD is one of the key data points needed to prepare a building’s climate declaration and meet regulatory requirements,” says Technology Manager Ville Moilanen.
SNEP® EPDs cover the entire luminaire product family
The EPDs for SNEP® luminaires are based on a worst-case approach, using the longest product version with the largest amount of electronics as the basis for the calculation. This ensures that all configurations within the same product family are covered by the EPD.
“In our industry, EPDs are often configuration-specific, meaning that they only cover certain product versions rather than the entire product family,” Moilanen explains.
GWP A1–A3 values for individual product configurations are available in the SNEP® Product Selector. The worst-case calculation approach ensures that these values are also covered by the verified EPD.
“Our EPD provides designers and the entire supply chain with an easy, reliable and comprehensive source of environmental information.”
Recycled aluminium luminaire body and energy-efficient lighting technology support low-carbon construction
Sustainability requirements in construction continue to increase, along with the need for products whose environmental impacts can be easily verified. SNEP® luminaires combine energy-efficient lighting technology, 100% recycled Greenline® aluminium and reliable EPDs. The result is a Finnish lighting solution designed to meet the requirements of future construction today.
“Building legislation is driving construction towards lower carbon emissions, and carbon footprint limits will become stricter. Thanks to Greenline® aluminium, we can offer competitive values. We are not only meeting today’s requirements but are also prepared for stricter carbon footprint limits in the future,” Moilanen concludes.
